In the 1980s, people from the village of Shicheng came to Singapore to work as seafarers under Chairman Lim whose heritage was also of the small seaside town. However, when International Maritime law mandated seafarers be able to communicate in English, many suddenly found themselves without work.
The situation of these seafarers was not unnoticed by the Chairman, who contributed the seed funds to secure the aquafarming rights in the waters of Xinghua Bay, Putian.
The Chairman never forgot his roots and gave his fellow countrymen a chance to start afresh. This generous gesture had a great influence in inspiring a philosophy towards appreciating relationships between people and of the natural gifts their pretine environment offers.
Hence, the name Yilai represents the gratitude towards gifts of life and drives the passion to create a natural, sustainable abalone that is pure in quality.
